Of course, no vessel is perfect. The Wanderwell runs on the lower side for fuel, armor, and weapons. You’ll need to refuel more often and watch your back in dogfights. But for a new captain just starting out, the Wanderwell provides a solid foundation to explore the stars without breaking the bank. Once you’ve got some missions under your belt and credits in your account, you can think about upgrading.

Best Ship for Travelling: Kepler R

When you’re itching to upgrade from your starter ship and see more of the galaxy, look no further than the mighty Kepler R. This beefy hauler is perfect for captains who love exploring in style and comfort. 

To get the Kepler R, help out Walter at New Atlantis by completing the “Overdesigned” side quest. Lend your expertise to improve his designs – choose upgrades like bigger engines and some teeth in the form of weapons. The results? She’ll take you anywhere with a massive 2800 fuel capacity. You can load up for any adventure with 3550 cargo and a sturdy 999 hull.

Powering all that bulk is a grav drive packing serious punch. It’ll still jump you a smooth 30 light years even when fully loaded. And with weaponry like BAL 4 and EM 48, you’re ready for any space scuffles. I’ve taken mine from the icy poles of Kreet to the sweltering jungles of Calyssa without a hitch. 

Of course, such a big ship does have its downsides. She’s not the most nimble handler, and the crew quarters only sleep 6 snugly. The shield could also use some beefing up at 805. But for a free upgrade from your starter, you really can’t beat the Kepler R’s versatility.

Best Ship for All-Around Performance: Starstrider

Looking for a ship that can do it all in style? Say hello to the sleek Starstrider. This B-class beauty can handle any situation you throw at it, from blasting pirates to exploring alien worlds. 

Where to find one? Check ship showrooms, salvage yards, or keep an eye out while bounty hunting. The Starstrider has balanced stats across the board with 800 fuel, 1000 hull, 1500 cargo, and a smooth 40 light year jump range. I especially love the trio of weapons – BAL 60, LAS 18, and MSL 108 mean you’re never at a loss in a fight.

But it’s not just stats that make the Starstrider sing – it’s got an array of customizable colors to make it more gorgeous. Piloting this ship really makes you feel like the captain of the stars in this insane graphic world. 

Of course, such performance does come at a cost. At over half a million credits, it doesn’t come cheap. And with a level 4 piloting requirement as a class B ship, you’ll need some experience under your belt. The Starstrider also isn’t always easy to find, so you may have to do some searching or competing with others. 

Still, if you’re after a ship that looks as good as it flies, can’t beat the Starstrider. Just be prepared to save up or get lucky to call this beauty your own.
